Arsenal's Petr Cech celebrates at the end of the match
The London team aim to make it third time lucky against Barca over two legs having lost to them in 2010 and 2011, their only victory against Barcelona coming with goals from Robin van Persie and Andrei Arshavin in a 2-1 win in the first leg of their last-16 tie in the latter year.
That victory ultimately proved futile as Lionel Messi, who had scored four times to knock out Arsenal in the 2010 quarter-finals, struck twice in the second leg to secure a 4-3 aggregate win.
But he has yet to find a way past for Chelsea goalkeeper Cech in eight meetings, including a famous win over Barca in the last four on their way to winning the Champions League trophy four years ago.
“I hope that will give Cech a lot of confidence and will keep him quiet," said Wenger in a media conference. "I hope that Messi will have a little complex and the history will play for us and against Messi."

Arsenal also lost to 2-1 Barca in the Champions League final a decade ago when goalkeeper Jens Lehmann was sent off in the opening moments.
“Barcelona are super favourites, we need to raise the urgency level," said Wenger.
“Tomorrow everybody is convince we need to absolutely be totally focused to have a chance. Belief, confidence and let’s go for it.

.
Last year we were favourites against Monaco, it’s the biggest upset we have known in recent years.
“We didn’t start the game well and we paid for it.
“So tomorrow we need a good mixture between commitment and keep our nerves. No stupid fouls or red card like happened before.”
Wenger failed to bring Luis Suarez to the Emirates from Liverpool in 2013, and has admired the Uruguay’s contribution to Barca since his move to the Camp Nou after the 2014 World Cup.
Suarez is leading goalscorer in La Liga with 25 goals and has scored five times in the Champions League as part of MSN - Messi and Neymar being the other parts of the attacking trio.
"They are the most efficient (forward line) in the world," said Wenger.
“Messi scored 300 goals in 340 games, I’ve seen many strikers in my life but I’ve never seen a record like that

The beast is Awakens

ANALYTICS. The beast Messi awakens

The Argentine is on his best moment, just before Champions League
Leo Messi is on his best moment so far and this is not happening before Champions League by chance. Due to the injury which left him 2 months away from the field, the Argentine was forced to change physical planning and this allowed him be fitter at the end of the season. Bit by bit, Messi increased his pace and after a period in which Suárez and Neymar leaded the team, now Barça's 10 is who took the reins of the squad.

1. 14 goals in the last 11 matches

Messi is on fire. He managed to score two hat-tricks —Granada and Valencia,— he leaded the win vs Sporting and did a great match against Celta, with two assists. He surpassed the goal 300 in La Liga and next record he will beat is the one of Torpedo Müller, who scored 365 goals in a great European league (Bundesliga).

2. More participation in the game

In the match against Sporting, Messi tried 75 passes and was active during the 90 minutes. Let's compare with the first 90 minutes he played after the injury: it was on November, against Real Sociedad, and he only tried 35 passes. Barça's staff coached Messi with care until reaching the optimal level.

3. The team's second top scorer

Despite being 2 months out, Messi has scored 27 goals in 30 matches, beating Neymar's 22 in 34 matches. Above he only has Suárez, with 40 goals in 39 matches. In the last 7 seasons, he has been the top scorer of the team. Will he get it this season? Since 2009, these are the numbers of goals per season scored: 38, 47, 53, 73, 60, 43 and 58.

4. The most generous Messi

Aged 28, Leo Messi is showing he wants to make his influence zone increase. He is not only a goal-devouring footballer like when he used to play as false 9. Now he also associates with his mates and starts the plays in the midfield. This season he has assisted 13 goals in 30 matches, and the connection with Suárez and Neymar forces the opponents to control more things.

5. Dosage

Another aspect in which Messi is maturing: he is aware of which matches he has to play and when he needs rest. Over the last weeks, he missed the two Copa matches against Athletic and Valencia, plus the second half vs Athletic in La Liga. When he feels some discomfort, he asks for being subbed off. He knows his conditions every time better and when he plays, he calculates his effort. Luis Enrique and staff's management has also been key to get Messi's best performance in the important moments.

The Federal Government has sacked all the vice chancellors

The Federal Government has sacked all the vice chancellors of 12 federal universities that were established by the administration of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and President Muhammadu Buhari Also affected by the sack is the Vice Chancellor of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Vincent Tenebe. Their dismissal which was contained in a short statement signed by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu and obtained by journalists on Saturday in Abuja, simply said President Muahammadu Buhari, has approved the appointment of new vice chancellors for the universities. But the decision is already generating ripples, with some members of the academic community claiming that it is only the Governing Council of NOUN of which Tenebe is a member, that could remove him. A human rights organisation, Coalition of Civil Society Groups has protested against the sack in a letter to Buhari, demanding the reversal of the decision in which the NOUN VC was replaced with Prof. Abdalla Uba Adamu of the Department of Mass Communication, Bayero University, Kano. The substantive Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State, Prof. Mohammed Kundiri, was transferred to the Federal University, Wukari, Taraba State. The CCSG in its protest letter to Buhari signed by its president, Etuk Bassey Williams and secretary-general, Ibrahim Abubakar, said the action contravenes the provisions of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act No.11 of 1993 (as amended) by decree No.25, 1996 and further amended in 2003 and 2012 respectively and other agreements as contained in the 2009 FGN staff union agreement. The petitioners said that four out of the 12 newly appointed vice chancellors are from Kano University, an action they said, was a clear violation of the federal character principle.

Peller speaks on fraud in TB Joshua, Oyakhilome's operations

Peller speaks on fraud in TB Joshua, Oyakhilome's operations

Sulaiman uthman Ola

– Yet another shocking revelation has been made regarding the powers of Prophet T.B Joshua and Pastor Chris Oyakhilome
– Bishop Kayode Peller has claimed that both clergymen are magicians
The General Overseer (GO) of the Fingers of God Church, Alagbado Lagos state, Bishop Kayode Joseph Abiola Peller, has cast aspersions on Senior Pastor of The Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), T.B Joshua, and Chris Oyakhilome, founder of Christ Embassy.
Bishop Peller who is son of the late renowned magician, Professor Peller, called out clergymen, accusing them of being magicians.
The renowned magician, said the duo, his colleagues in the ministry, use their eyes with demonic powers in them to superimpose their thoughts into people.
In a recent interview with Flip TV, Peller said: “What I see Temitope Joshua do from my own magic experience is what we call mesmerism. It is also called hypnotism.”
He claimed that while T.B Joshua uses Kabballah magic to hypnotize his congregation and the general public over his miracles, Chris Oyakhilome’s association with Joshua makes him a suspect.
Taking on Oyakhilome, Peller said: “I used to believe Oyakhilome before. That ended the day I saw him and Joshua doing miracles and castigating our pastors, Ayo and Okonkwo.
Joshua
T B Joshua and Chris Oyakhilome
“When you castigate these great men of God, you are no more for God. They do miracles but don’t know what they teach.
“I would say they use magic on their followers since I was a former magician. I see in their actions hypnotism and seduction. I mean the way we used to seduce our congregation; those that come to watch our magic those days.
“I see mesmerism, hypnotism and occult display in what they do. How can people jubilate over atmosphere of miracles and before they get to the bus stop, the miracles have gone. Miracles are not limited to atmosphere. God is in charge of everywhere,” he added.
According to the Bishop: “They use the eyes with the demonic power in them to superimpose their thoughts into people. It happens, for most of those walking in the streets have very weak spirits. For there is witchcraft ability in every man.
“That is what we call telepathising: I mean, when I see them do their drama of healing while dancing from one side to another. I know its hypnotism.
“These are dangerous occultist words. Telepathising, hypnotism, occultism, kabbalah magic are processes of ruling the minds of weaker men. It could go to the length of seeing the magic maker in the dreams once the weaker person allows the demonic spirit of the conjurer to influence his mind.”
Defending his criticism on the duo, the reformer said: “Let nobody think that I am jealous of them because their churches are big. If I want to make mine big I know what to do. I am the son of Peller. I know where things happen.
“I am not a ‘mugu’, to say the truth. They can’t fool me. I want to make heaven. I don’t want my work to be a waste; for every work built on faulty foundation, shall not stand the test of time.
“Foundation of deceit, occultism and demonic power cannot stand the test of time when the owner leaves. Jesus will deny them on that day.
“God only can say if Joshua is a real man of God. I don’t judge them; only God can do that.
“Having said all these, I have nothing against them. For I feel that nothing can be except God allows,” Bishop Kayode quipped.
It would be recalled that about a fortnight ago, a very popular Ghanaian witch doctor, Nana Kwaku Bonsam said T.B Joshua comes to him to acquire spiritual powers. .

What is Retail Management?

What is management ?
Management refers to the process of bringing people together on a common platform and make them work as a single unit to achieve the goals and objectives of an organization. Management is required in all aspects of life and forms an integral part of all businesses.

Retail management
The various processes which help the customers to procure the desired merchandise from the retail stores for their end use refer to retail management. Retail management includes all the steps required to bring the customers into the store and fulfill their buying needs.
Retail management makes shopping a pleasurable experience and ensures the customers leave the store with a smile. In simpler words, retail management helps customers shop without any difficulty.

Need for Retail Management - Why retail management ?
Peter wanted to gift his wife a nice watch on her birthday. He went to the nearby store to check out few options. The retailer took almost an hour to find the watches. This irritated Peter and he vowed not to visit the store again.-An example of poor management.
You just can’t afford to make the customer wait for long. The merchandise needs to be well organized to avoid unnecessary searching. Such situations are common in mom and pop stores (kirana stores). One can never enjoy shopping at such stores.

Retail management saves time and ensures the customers easily locate their desired merchandise and return home satisfied.
  • An effective management avoids unnecessary chaos at the store.
  • Effective Management controls shopliftings to a large extent.
  • The retailer must keep a record of all the products coming into the store.
  • The products must be well arranged on the assigned shelves according to size, colour, gender, patterns etc.
  • Plan the store layout well.
  • The range of products available at the store must be divided into small groups comprising of similar products. Such groups are called categories. A customer can simply walk up to a particular category and look for products without much assistance.
  • A unique SKU code must be assigned to each and every product for easy tracking.
  • Necessary labels must be put on the shelves for the customers to locate the merchandise on their own.
  • Don’t keep the customers waiting.
  • Make sure the sales representatives attend the customers well. Assist them in their shopping. Greet them with a smile
  • The retailer must ensure enough stock is available at the store.
  • Make sure the store is kept clean. Don’t stock unnecessary furniture as it gives a cluttered look to the store. The customers must be able to move freely.
  • The store manager, department managers, cashier and all other employees should be trained from time to time to extract the best out of them. They should be well aware of their roles and responsibilities and customer oriented. They should be experts in their respective areas.
  • The store manager must make daily sales reports to keep a track of the cash flow. Use softwares or maintain registers for the same.
  • Remove the unsold merchandise from the shelves. Keep them somewhere else.
  • Create an attractive display.
  • Plan things well in advance to avoid confusions later on.
  • Ask the customers to produce bills in case of exchange. Assign fixed timings for the same. Don’t entertain customers after a week.

Buhari has arrived in London to attend a conference on the ongoing Syrian crisis. The Supporting Syria & the Region conference is co-hosted by the UK, Germany, Kuwait, Norway and the UN and focuses on how to step up efforts to assist millions of Syrians displaced by the conflict, which started in 2011.
The leader of the nation was expected back to Nigeria at the weekend.
There were speculations that President Buhari visited London because he needs medical treatment.
It’s Buhari’s first vacation as Nigerian President.
OMG!!!

What can you see?

Buhari under pressure to stop ant-graft war, says Osinbanjo

Buhari under pressure to stop anti-graft war, says Osinbajo

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has said President Muhammadu Buhari is currently under intense pressure to stop his administration’s ongoing anti-corruption war.
Although he said the pressure was being mounted by the Nigerian elite, he did not name those behind the campaign.
According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, on Thursday, the Vice-President spoke while granting audience to a delegation from the Muslim Congress of Nigeria at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Osinbajo added that those mounting pressure on Buhari to “slow down” the anti-corruption fight cut across tribal and religious lines.
He stated, “We get regular messages from some Nigerian elite saying ‘cool down.’
“It is a very strange morality that some of those people have, (which is) very complicated, and cutting across all tribes and religious differences.”
Osinbajo said the position of those putting pressure on the government was that “it (corruption) is not a big deal.”
He disclosed that those in that category had been advising the government that it should merely ask the looters of public treasury to return the money and go free.
He, however, assured his guests and Nigerians that despite the pressure, the present administration would not relent in the anti-corruption fight.
The vice-president expressed delight that contrary to the argument of the elite, a new set of Nigerians, who would not compromise their values but would maintain a sense of right and wrong, was emerging.
“The man on the street is very clear; so whatever some of these elite say, we shall keep our focus on the masses who voted for us,” the vice-president declared.
Osinbajo said it was unacceptable that in the last 16 years, there was not a single Federal Government completed road or rail project.
He attributed the situation to corruption, saying costs of projects were often inflated as people, entrusted with public trust, struggled to enrich themselves at the expense of the people.
The vice-president believed that it was the same inordinate desire for personal enrichment that explained why money meant to procure arms was distributed among persons at a time when the territorial integrity of the nation was being attacked.
“The insurgency has gone on for six years because government could not adequately equip the military,” he stated.
Osinbajo assured Nigerians that the present administration had no other agenda but the progress of the country.
“Mr. President and I are extremely focussed on what we need to do. We will focus on critical things, infrastructure and social investments,” he said.
The leader of the delegation, Imam Abdulahi Shuaib, expressed the group’s support for the government in its programmes; including anti-corruption, expressing the readiness of the group to offer assistance.
The vice-president also received delegations from the Nigeria Society of Engineers and the Facility for Oil Sector Transparency Reform.
During the visit of a delegation of FOSTER, a group consisting of NGOs involved in different issues in the Niger Delta area, Osinbajo restated government’s commitment to the development of the oil producing region.
He also commended the group for coming together to develop a common framework to support the process of development in the area.

Buhari laments declining fortunes of oil sector

President Muhammadu Buhari has lamented the declining fortunes of the nation’s oil sector.

He expressed his sadness at the ugly turn in the nation’s oil sector at the luncheon organised in his honour on Tuesday by the Ogun State Government. The luncheon held at the proposed site of President Muhammadu Buhari Estate, along Abeokuta-Siun-Kobape-Sagamu Expressway, in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the Ogun State.

Buhari was on a two-day visit to the state in commemoration of the state’s 40th anniversary.

Buhari, who appreciated former President Olusegun Obasanjo for appointing him then as the Minister of Petroleum, said during his three and half years tenure, both the Warri and Kaduna refineries were built.

He said, “I want to appreciate the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, for appointing me as the Minister of Petroleum. For three years he tolerated me; I really thank him for that. Within those years, we built the Warri and Kaduna refineries.

“We laid so many pipelines and then we were exporting refined petroleum products. But what do we have today? I want to stop here.”

Buhari, who left the Presidential Lodge, Ibara GRA, Abeokuta at exactly 10am, inaugurated four projects executed by Governor Ibikunle Amosun in Abeokuta.

They were the partially completed ultra-modern market, Omida; Itoku-Sapon flyover named Olufunmilayo Ransome-Kuti Flyover; ultra-modern market at Sapon; and one of the model colleges named after two educationists who hail from the state, Femi and Dotun Oyewole.

The President also turned the sod at the proposed sites of the Ogun State Judiciary complex and the estate named after him.

Buhari was later treated to a luncheon, which attracted some of the former governors of the state, royal fathers, ministers, governors, and the All Progressives Congress’ chieftains led by the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

Buhari commended Amosun for transforming the state, most especially Abeokuta, in terms of infrastructural development.

He said as a commissioned officer in 1963, his first posting was to Abeokuta, adding that the state had changed tremendously, in terms of infrastructure, that he had to rely on the governor to identify sites of some landmarks in the state while he was there.

Earlier, Obasanjo and the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, had disagreed over the age-long agitation for the creation of Ijebu State out of the present Ogun State.

The former President, who was reacting to an earlier statement by Oba Adetona who had asked him (Obasanjo) to support the creation of Ijebu State, said he would only support the creation of the state if the people of the senatorial district would agree on the choice of Ikenne as the capital of the proposed state.

The monarch, who restated his relentless demand for the creation of Ijebu State, noted that Obasanjo’s support was crucial in realising it.

Oba Adetona, however, urged President Buhari to grant the request of the people of Ijebuland, in having a state of their own.

Earlier, Buhari had paid a courtesy visit to the Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, at his palace in Ake, Abeokuta.

The monarch also expressed support for the anti-corruption crusade of the Buhari administration.

He said the President’s war against graft, which he described as a “national cankerworm,” had been acclaimed nationally and globally.

The highlight of the 40th anniversary celebration was the presentation of state recognition awards to some prominent indigenes of the state.

The beneficiaries included a statistician, Prof. Biyi Afonja, a former INEC Commissioner for Lagos and Rivers states, Olori Yetunde Gbadebo; Lotto magnate and philanthropist, Chief Kessington Adebutu, and Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, who was conferred with the award in absentia.

Obasanjo was honoured with the “Icon of all Time” award.

Dignitaries at the event included the wife of the Vice-President, Dolapo, the National Vice-Chairman, APC (South), Chief Segun Oni, the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun; and the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed.

Others are the former head of the defunct Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan, governors of Oyo and Osun states, Abiola Ajimobi and Rauf Aregbesola. Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State was represented by his deputy, Dr. Oluranti Adebule.

VERSITIES DEPLOY CAT IN ORDER TO PREVENT THE OUTBREAK OF LASSA FEVER

Authorities of the various universities in the country have
deployed various strategies, including the use of cats, in
order to prevent an outbreak of Lassa fever on campuses,
findings by our correspondents reveal.
From the University of Benin, Edo State; Ahmadu Bello
University, Zaria, Kaduna State; University of Nigeria,
Nsukka; Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State;
Enugu State University of Science and Technology to the
University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the race for hunting
of rats has taken a new dimension.
Before now, many, particularly animal scientists, did not
bother about the danger of co-habiting with rodents, which
they considered as part of the ecosystem. For the majority
of the students also, provided these rodents did not eat their
books and personal belongings, they could afford to allow
them to exist on campuses.
But this situation has changed. Both the students and the
workers no longer see these common rodents as co-
partners. In fact, while some of the institutions employ the
conventional approach such as preaching the “gospel” of
cleanliness, sensitising students and members of staff to the
danger of co-habiting with rats, and fumigation, others use
the unorthodox mechanism like purchasing of cats to “de-
rat” their campuses.
Even in some schools, students have thrown aboard the idea
of indulging in their regular “drinking” of garri pastime.
That the authorities and the students now employ these
strategies is not out of place. Rats, especially the Natal
multimammate mice (Mastomys natalensis), found in many
sub-Saharan Africa, are believed to be the major carrier of
Lassa fever or Lassa hemorrhagic fever. And statistics so far
show that no fewer than 60 persons have lost their lives to
the virus in Nigeria.
From Benin, the authorities of UNIBEN are not giving
anything to chance, especially with the reported death of a
final-year engineering student. The student was said to be an
occupant in Hall Three, one of the hostels on Ugbowo
campus of the university.
But the UNIBEN management, through its Public Relations
Officer, Mr. Michael Osasuyi, dismissed the speculation
about the death of a student of the university.
According to him, there is no truth in the story that a final-
year student died of the virus.
Osasuyi, who, however, said the university was carrying out
proactive measures to forestall any outbreak in the
institution, added that a committee had been set up to
sensitise members of staff and students to the dangers of
the virus.
He also hinted of plans to “de-rat the university” as part of
efforts to check the prevalence of rodents in the community.
Osasuyi added, “The vice-chancellor has mandated the
student union to organise sensitisation programmes. Before
any outbreak, the university is even proactive. The
population of student is much; so, we cannot take chances.
It is no news that we have rats everywhere.”
However, it was also learnt that the various hostels had
been fortified with cats allegedly provided by the university
management to control the number of rats within the
community.
But to escape contracting the virus, a 400-level medical
student, Eddy Uwughiren, said many students on campus
had increased their commitment to personal hygiene.
Uwughiren said, “I know that the school has organised a
seminar to enlighten students on Lassa fever. There are
school cats that kill the rats. Rats are very common in our
hostels but the cats do kill them. For me, I ensure that I
cover all my edibles well. It is the same with my roommates;
we try to maintain a high level of hygiene.”
The use of cats to prevent an outbreak of the virus is also
fashionable in ABU. It was gathered that the authorities, in
declaring war on rats, provided cats on hostels, especially
on Samaru and Kongo campuses.
The Director, Health Services of the ABU, Dr. Hauwa Nana-
Madugu, who confirmed this, however, said the university
was free of Lassa fever.
According to her, all the hostels – Amina, Suleiman,
Akenzua, Danfo-dio, ICSA/Rammat – have been provided
with cats to eliminate all rats.
Besides fumigating and clearing the surroundings, students
and members of staff, she said, had been sensitised to the
danger of the disease.
She added, “Apart from fumigating the environment,
clearing of the bushes and rats’ (reservoir), the various
hostels have been provided with cats to attack the rats. The
university has no option but to safeguard the lives of the
residents of the community.”
But students of UNICAL and the Cross River University of
Technology, Calabar, have reduced the consumption of garri
with cold water (‘soaking’) due to the fear of the virus.
Though there has not been any reported case of Lassa fever
in the state, the authorities of UNICAL have embarked on
fumigation of hostels to reduce the number of rats in the
institution.
A 400-level Human Anatomy student, Soso Jumbo, said
students had been discouraged from consuming garri
“soaked” in cold water.
He said, “We constantly get advice from the garri sellers on
campus not to soak it the usual way in cold water to avoid
contracting the virus. They have advised us to use to the hot
water version for now and that is what I do if the need
arises.”
Another student, Rosemary Johnson, said the fumigation by
the management had reduced the presence of rodents on
campus.
A 200-levels student in the Department Visual Arts,
CRUTECH, Eme Archibong, said students had jettisoned the
idea of “soaking” to avoid contracting Lassa fever.
The UNN management has also embarked on a campaign to
sensitise the students to the virus.
Its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Okwun Omaku, said the
management embarked on the campaign in order to
prevent the outbreak of the disease in the institution.
He said, “We have been sensitising the students, creating
awareness on the causes of Lassa fever and ways of
preventing it. We did a memo on that and placed it on notice
boards.
“Also, the campus radio station, Lion FM, is being used to
create the necessary awareness among the students. The
message is that they should ensure a clean environment,
maintain hygiene and keep food and foodstuffs properly
covered.”
But the Director for Public Affairs, ESUTECH, Mr. Ossy
Ugwuoti, noted that Lassa fever was not in the state.
However, some of OAU students on Monday described rats
at “co-tenants” in their halls of residence.
A student, who lives at Awo Hall, Timothy Okewale, said
many students did not consider the presence of rats as a
danger to their lives any longer because they had been living
with these rodents since they were admitted to the
university.
He said, “Rats are still around. They cannot go to anywhere
because they get food easily and I think the environment
makes them thrive.”
A resident at Mozambique Hall, who identified herself as
Tope, agreed with Okewale on the presence of rats in the
university.
She said although there had not been any recent fumigation
in her hostel, the management placed a notice at the
entrance of the hostels, advising students on the preventive
measures.
She said, “The hall has not been fumigated since the
outbreak of Lassa fever but we have plenty of rats around.
Everybody is making efforts to prevent infection.
Students of the university last November embarked on a
series of protests against the poor condition of their hostels.
However, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr.
Abiodun Olanrewaju, said there were no rats in the
university. He said the neatness of the campus made it
unattractive to rats.
He said, “There are no rats in OAU. The environment is not
conducive to them. Rats prefer to live in dirty places where
they can hide. That is not the case on our campus. The
neatness and cleanliness of the OAU does not make the
campus attractive to rats.”
A UNIPORT student, John Nnadum, said that the institution
had begun the campaign against Lassa fever since last week,
adding that lectures were organised in the institution on how
to avoid the disease.
The spokesperson for the university, Dr. William Wodi,
confirmed the contribution the authorities were making to
prevent the virus on campus.
He added that the university had trained its health workers.
However, a student of the Kenule Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic
Bori, Favour Udonkwa, said the institution had not begun
any campaign on Lassa fever.
Udonkwa, a Mass Communication student, explained that
though it was not long that the polytechnic resumed after a
long break, no campaign against Lassa fever was going on in
the institution.
The Deputy Registrar/ Head of the Information Unit, UNILAG,
Mr. Toyin Adebule, said the authorities were not giving
anything to chance. Beyond fumigation and sharing of
pamphlets to sensitise members of the community, Adebule
added, the authorities had posted all the needed
information about the virus on the university’s website.
He said, “Following the bedbug saga, we had fumigated the
hostels and other parts of the institution. Since then, we
have continued to carry out the exercise to ensure that the
environment is habitable. With the strategies put in place by
the directorate of works and health services, I do not think
the university will be caught napping with regard to Lassa
fever.”
Even UI, whose students are on vacation, is putting in place
some preventive measures. The UI Director of Health
Services, Dr. Femi Akingbola, said the school had taken
measures to ensure that no student came to the school with
the Lassa fever.
He said the school would also screen the students when they
arrived on February 13, adding that the institution needed
the support of the Oyo State Government to guide against
dumping of refuse by residents of the community outside
the campus at the school gate.
